Important travel tip and notice to e-bike users: the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has recently made an announcement regarding the use of e-bikes in Metro Manila, which will enforce an e-bike ban from accessing major roads in the city. This new regulation will come into effect on April 15, 2024.

E-bikes are not allowed to traverse the main roads in Metro Manila listed below:

• Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa)
• C.M. Recto Avenue, Manila
• President Quirino Avenue, Manila
• Araneta Avenue, QC
• Katipunan/C.P. Garcia, QC
• Southeast Metro Manila Expressway
• Roxas Boulevard, Manila / Pasay / Paranaque
• Taft Avenue, Manila / Pasay
• Osmeña Highway (South Superhighway)
• Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong / Pasig
• Ortigas Avenue, Mandaluyong / Pasig

Individuals caught operating e-bikes will be subject to a penalty of P2,500. In addition, their e-bikes will be impounded if they cannot present a valid driver's license.

The increase in fatal accidents among e-bike users is a reason for the measure, according to MMDA.
